Energy

Oh so this is how it is?

If imagination is the most important thing, then music is the beginning and the end. Music inspires us to feel, feelings cause us to derive new thoughts, new thoughts allow us to run with our imagination and create. Everything around us is musical, just depends on whether your listening or not.

Sometimes we guide the sounds and at other times the sounds guide us. Why am I here listening to the sounds of a guitar and a familiar voice drifting away thinking of a past relationship I've had? It's the relationship that you weren't really into, but you've never had fun like this, you could do, say, or be anything you wanted and never be judged. But here's the catch, when looking back you only see it that way when listening to that perfect song. As soon as the song changes, because you've got the playlist on shuffle, your thinking about the meeting a week ago that just didn't seem to sit well in your stomach.

Music can bring out feelings that appear to be so real....you just feel alive when that song comes on. If you've ever got that warm fuzzy feeling from seeing your friend smile and do that little embarrassed laugh after sorting something out you know what feeling I'm talking about. Granted the grounds for the smile are not always the best, but it doesn't matter why it happens...you cant help but smile back. That feeling is intensified by 10 when accompanied by music. Music just makes everything that much more satisfying. This is nothing new, think about it, everything is set to music, everything. Why you ask yourself? Its cause music is everywhere and it plays with our senses like the way we play with newborns. We can take it where we want, make it do what we want, and all the while molding it into something we would like to see. Music has the same power over us. However, it only truly takes us in if we let it. I'd like to charge a moderate percentage of the population with the crime of not listening. Im not sure if they don't have the time, don't really believe it has the value that I attach to it, or they just don't have the mental capacity to see that sounds have such power. What ever the case may be, this phenomenon is taken for granted and it really shouldn't be, but that's up to you.(out of the three people who may actually see this blog...I know you all love music so don't even read this)

This is why I laugh at people who feel that bad lyrics are to blame for problems in society. Give me a break, little Billy didn't shoot his teacher because he heard the word fuck ten times in a song. He also didn't go out and try and pop a cap in a cops ass because he heard it was cool in a song. Most kids don't understand how to really feel what the artist is going through, they don't quite identity with him. They are however really good at understanding that the lyrics are seen as bad, and rebelling is pretty cool. The reasons for events like this run way deeper then any song ever performed.

Music can define a generation if you look deep. Now deeper does not mean sit down with a box of Kleenex and start crying while listening to your favorite love song. It means feel the sound, appreciate it, and live it. The message is different for everyone, but more often then not it falls onto familiar ground. Sometimes there isn't any feeling put out that you can pick up on, but I'm sure its there in its own subtle way. When this happens your imagination kicks in and is given free reign. You become the all knowing all powerful ruler of your new found domain. As I'm sure your well aware of what you like and what you don't like, where you can go, and where you cant. If you agreed with that last statement your hopeless...there is no limit of where you can and cant go with music. This is another foggy part; going places is not just dreaming about being something your not, or seeing something that you don't normally get to see. Its about seeing things in different lights that you never even knew existed. Its about thinking about things you've never thought about, or finding values that have managed to elude you in the past. Music is like a shovel that digs into your mind and just starts turning shit up. Music could also be seen as a drug...probably the cheapest and most effective one out there. Pressure and stress just float away if your able to appreciate music to its full potential. If you truly understand a piece of music and can identify with it and the artist you should be able to put anything out of your mind.

Another side of it is the creative side. Do yourself a favor and pick up a guitar, or sit down at a piano and start playing notes for no good reason. Lord knows there not going to make any sense at first, and they might not ever make sense. But every time you touch that instrument your creating something new, something you can call your own. Who knows, you might be able to pick it pretty quickly. Its a rewarding moment when you can play something you call yours, something that means something to you. Its a good way to channel energy too. So instead of blowing up at that client Monday morning cause the fucker shipped your package to Nunavut, you simply say: "Thank you, and may God have mercy on your soul".

But who really cares...cause its true...nothing really matters right? Everything will turn out ok and you know it. So just sit back, put in your favorite CD and enjoy what's going on around you for fuck sakes.

Throw away your Television

I have been to places you never knew existed. I have been in wars you have never heard of. I have seen pieces of art that would leave you simply speechless. Do not believe me? It is called an imagination moron. What, you cant remember what that word means? Do not worry, its not your fault. You've had a blanket over head and have been huffing fumes for to long. That is what mainstream entertainment is today: fumes of the real thing.

When is the last time you've been able to sit for longer then 20 minutes? No, sitting in front of the t.v. does not count. Why do you think that is? Well for starters its black, its found in almost all the rooms in your house, and will never go away unless you want it to. Money is time and time is money right? So when you come home from that long day at work you just want to shut the brain off, plop yourself in front of the tube and let it take your mind on a journey. You only have a finite amount of leisure time so once those mindless moments of television are chewed up you don't have time to be creative. T.V. has replaced our own imagination with someone else's. That's really what your watching, someone else's thoughts on a screen. Not at all trying to suggest that other peoples thoughts aren't valid or interesting. Sharing is a fundamental part of the social interaction that humans need to have on a daily basis. But, sharing the fact that you slept with your brother to get back at your boyfriend for banging your mother on national t.v. is not necessary.

I can't knock everything that is seen on television. It does have a lot of important functions to it. Portions of the news, and I stress portions, are relevant to keep you up to date on matters that concern your everyday life. Repeated clips of death and destruction to get ratings is another whole issue in itself. Nature shows educate us not only the raw level of co-existence we share with the earth and its inhabitants, but our blinding ability to destroy it. Sports and comedy shows are good for a laugh and a cheer, but you cant tell me watching the latest reality t.v. show provides that extra value you were looking for. Reality is where you will find reality.

The saddest part is where it all starts, youth. Get them hooked while they're young and impressionable and we've got ourselves a repeat customer folks. If you were not given a television instead of a babysitter as a child there are other little gadgets that you can add on to your t.v. to make it extra hard to break your 12 year old son away from it. I invite you to walk into any house with young children today (do not actually do this) and ask them what they enjoy more. A)shooting their friends bullet riddled body until they can't see it anymore on playstation, or B)playing a good old fashion game of cops and robbers. The answer will be: "pretend guns? How do you win?" Its simple, you win with your IMAGINATION. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed shooting up my roommates over the internet and you wont see me complaining if I walk by the t.v. and see Pamela bending over. But, too much of anything isn't healthy. I think people have forgotten how to be creative. Either that, or we've willingly handed over the power of creation from the many to the few. We've seen and experienced so much through someone else's eyes that when we aren't being constantly bombarded with this we find ourselves bored. "oh my god t.v. fucking blows today, whata ya wanna do?" ,"don't have a fucking clue". I'll admit I've had that conversation one too many times back in the day. Right around the time when swearing was cool, and testing the mental limits of your French teacher seemed like fun. That poor man.

Imagination is one of the most important things a human could possibly be given. Without it we would be stuck in some pre-man stage living in the bliss of ignorance. Some would argue this would not have been a bad deal. However, we were given the power to envision possibilities beyond our limits for a reason. Along with this tool came a little voice that forces us to make decisions which will in turn affect things other then ourselves. These two combine to give us the ability to move forward, unlike animals who are for the most part living to satisfy their primal needs.(definitely out of my element here in regards to the ongoings of the animal mind) An imagination allows us to create; it gives us the tools to build and design. To put this gift away on the shelf while we just try to get by is truly a disgusting waste.

If we didn't have an imagination we wouldn't have the grounds to debate. You would simply take what ever came your way as the golden rule. The decision about whether or not you should be dating Sarah or Julie wouldn't come up. In fact, who ever came first would be the right one because the only thing that mattered would be the present. Imagination is the grounds for every debate, every decision, every single event that has ever happened on this planet. Do you think George Bush had a crystal ball and could see himself getting away with the crime of the century? No, the little puppet bastard sat down with some other highly suspect assholes and pictured what it would be like to have the entire world listen to every word they had to say.

Do you think the phrase "I have a dream" should apply to everyone, every single day? Well I do. If you don't day dream about ripping off the bank while your sitting there painting it, there's something wrong. If you've never sat in class and suddenly pretend you were some terrible James Bond rip off saving everyone from terrorists, there's something wrong. If you've never been walking down the street and thought about what it would be like to just open up some rich guys beamer door, toss him out and go for the cruise of your life, there's something wrong. If you've never been so lost in a dream that to try and recreate it at another time would not nearly do it justice, somethings wrong. These dumb examples are just that, the point is the possibilities. Obviously to say we should all escape reality and live in a fairly tale world where we there is no responsibility is retarded. I just think the masses have given up creating their own dreams because someone else will pump out a generic form of it for them. This seems to work because it has all the right ingredients as if from some sub-conscious formula developed by a team of people standing on the shoulders of giants in a board room looking to make the almighty buck.

Imagination is so important, I cant even begin to explain to you how important it is. Although, the negative side of it is also very apparent. Someone's dreams may be the worst nightmares of others, and that is how it was, is, and will continue to be. The mind is a powerful tool and when used in the wrong way it can bring about devastating results. But the best thing to do is explore it. See what she's capable of. Not to sound cheesy, but this world would such a different place if everyone would just use it more often. You'd see more people walking around with grins from ear to ear for no apparent reason. There would be more random acts of kindness that would cause you to sit back and laugh to yourself silently on a park bench while the world seemed to drift by. Who knows, you might find a part of yourself that never existed before, or better yet, has just being playing hide and go seek in your mind for awhile. You'll remember how much fun it was hurling the snow ball at that car and hoping you had the craziest chase ever. You'll remember and you'll get out of that car and run your ass off after those kids just to give them the thrill. They'll come home that night and be able to say "oh my god the craziest fucking thing just happened, you wont believe it, ahhaah, Jeffy almost got caught, ahhah that stupid bastard fell".

This place could be a whole lot more entertaining and fun if people made the time to give a dam about something other then loan payments and what's on the tube tonight.
Create your own fun for fuck sakes.

ps. I'm going to end every post that way hahaa. Im also a huge hypocrite and never listen to what I have to say. This ones dedicated to the bitter grownups I deal with on a daily basis now.

The computer has become my television, and the melting of these two into one is not far off.
